One of the first blogs I ever wrote was about the Famous Tree Residence, outside Sisters, Oregon. That home was designed by Cutler Anderson Architects and completed in 2010.
This past weekend I picked up the latest issue of Cascade magazine, which features the home on the cover and in a article inside. I quickly came to discover that the home has been listed with Cascade Sotheby Reality with an asking price of $2,350,000.
With a little more research, I found a dedicated website, an e-book, another dedicated website, and best of all, an interactive walk-through, which allows you to move through the 2,300 square foot home via 360 degree panoramic photography.
The home is a fine case of Pacific Northwest design - especially in regard to the use of natural materials. It is also an excellent example of the idea of restraint in design. But the most striking thing about the home to me is that it is one of the very few instances I have seen in my professional career of a home infused with sustainable building practices (thermal mass, solar heating, environmentally sensitive siting, etc.) that also exhibits a very high level of design.
